Introducing, Well Designed with Emily

We saw Emily’s video for her Pre-Build Course and were excited to hear from an Interior Designer who is an advocate, not just for homeowners, but for other designers and builders as well. We felt like she had listened-in on so many of the conversations we’ve had with each other and with our homeowners about cost and design and summed it all up in just a few seconds.

Intrigued, we looked into her course and concept a bit more and then reached out to her the same day. She quickly responded and what started out as a conversation about how we could use her course for our homeowners, ended up over several days, being a partnership!

We are thrilled to announce that we are integrating her course and insights into our pre-construction process. We have no doubt that this will add so much value to our build experience for our homeowners and for us.

Emily’s message is grounded in a sound understanding of how design and construction both affect and depend on each other. Even without the workbooks and lesson tasks her guidance is clear, easy to understand and so very thought provoking. Without a doubt we build around the reasons that our homeowners want the homes and spaces they ask for, but the real “WHY” that Emily asks you to explore gives both a functional and emotional purpose to your plan. Some may roll their eyes at the emotional aspect, but I can assure you, there is plenty of emotion in construction. There may be “No Crying in Baseball” but that’s not true of home building and remodeling. We’ve seen exactly this scenario that Emily describes…

“I’ve watched so many homeowners walk into the design/build process excited, but painfully underprepared. They had Pinterest boards full of inspiration, but no clear plan or vision. They weren’t sure how to weigh the tradeoffs between aesthetics, function, cost, or durability. And because of that, they often ended up overwhelmed, frustrated, or disappointed. Not because they didn’t care, but because they were ill-equipped. At the same time, I saw how this lack of clarity affected builders and designers, too; creating tension, delays, and dissatisfaction on both sides.

I realized what was missing: education.

I believe your builder, designer, or contractor can only execute as well as you can clearly communicate your vision and values. The best design-build teams will have a strong discovery phase before a project begins. But that should be about them uncovering your desires, not teaching you the basics and how to understand your own desires.”

The Pre-Build course fits seamlessly into our pre-construction process, since much of what we already asked our clients to do during the planning process is in-line with Emily’s tasks and guidance. Our goal has always been to provide our homeowners with clarity and good information to make decision about their selections, but adding Emily’s next level insights and prompts will certainly deepen our clients’ understanding of their wants and needs and offer a more meaningful, successful experience for each build. The time and effort our clients invest in this system with our guidance, is a value that will last long after we’ve completed their home.

Please take a few minutes to watch Emily’s introduction video. We think you’ll be excited to get started. We provide her entire course including the selections library and workbooks when you begin pre-construction with us.
